Activated! Series- Part 1

Hey Everyone! I've decided I'm going to do a ten part series about some of my personal friends that are doing "hard" things for Christ (if you've read "Do Hard Things" by Alex & Brett Harris, then you have a better picture of what I'm talking about. If not, it doesn't really matter but I would greatly encourage you to read it!) by standing up for their beliefs, being good examples of how Christian youth should spend their time, etc.

These are people who know what they believe and are not afraid to show it (sometimes it's hard, but they all know who they ultimately have to answer to. . .and it's not their peers!). These are my friends who are in the prime of their life, doing what many people will not know about, but that will have an eternal impact on the kingdom of Heaven and bless many.

My prayer is that this short series will encourage you, bless you, and motivate you to be a light to the people around you who are looking for something to believe in!

I once heard an illustration done by Pastor Wayne Corderio of New Hope Church that goes something like this: there's a bunch of people in a room together. All of them are shaking. Half of them don't know why they're shaking and half of them know that they can control themselves and not be shaky but they just do it because everyone else is. So one person who doesn't know this, looks above the crowd to see if there is anyone who is not shaking and standing on solid ground for he would like to learn how. But, unfortunately, there is no one. So unless someone stops shaking, he will never learn how to stop and stand on solid ground because there was no one to show him that it could be done.

Rebelution Conference '09

On July 11th, me and my dad with some friends went to see Alex and Brett Harris (aka- Rebelution) younger brothers to Joshua Harris, at Moody church in Chicago, IL. Here are some pictures we took. . .

Alex and Brett's older brother, Joel, led the worship.

The band "Reilly" helped Joel lead the worship.

Alex talking about how much the "world" expects from most teens, which is not alot, sadly. He said if you look at teens a hundred years ago, they where not "teens" as we know them. They where children or adults. Now we're supposed to be in this stage of life where we sound like adults, look like adults, but still act like kids.

Brett talking about how we can change our bad reputation as teens to be something way better than what we are now and what we where 100 years ago!

My dad enjoyed listening to their father, Mr. Gregg Harris who talked about Character.

Alexandra, Lauren, and Me.

Twins Teaching Together

About 50 kids got saved that day! It's so awesome when you see really get to experience God moving in people enough that they are able to stand up and shout "Jesus is Lord"!

Alex and Brett signing autographs. After every session, they were swamped with people!

Me with Alex Harris (I'm NOT photogenic!!).

Me and Brett Harris.

If you would like to learn more about them, check their blog and/or their book.

"Do Hard Things" Tour

I'm excited about the Do Hard Things Tour (http://www.therebelution.com/conference) a one-day Christian teen conference that's coming to - Chicago, IL :: July 11! Me and my parents are attending and would love to have you join us. (They are also coming to - Louisville, KY :: June 20, - Orange County, CA :: July 25, - Birmingham, AL :: August 29, - Washington, D.C. :: Sept 19!)

Visit their website, watch the promo video, listen to the session previews and let us know what you think. The Rebelution is defined as "a teenage rebellion against the low expectations of an ungodly culture." Both parents and teens need to hear this message!

Enthusiastically,
Janai

P.S. Alex and Brett Harris (20-year-old twins who are speaking at the conference) have written a book called Do Hard Things. Check it out: http://www.dohardthings.com
