Where are Your Values?

Where are your values? Your very own personal values? Are they in friends? Music? Material things? Classes? Your iPod? Your favorite show? The internet?

According to the dictionary, a value is something of relative worth, merit, or importance. What your value is also what your treasure is. Luke 12: 34 says " Where your treasure is there your heart will be also." So I'll ask you the question again in two different ways;

What is your treasure and where is your heart?

There's a girl (a Christian) that tells her friend her life was literally saved from a worldly music group that sings about love and things similar to that(nothing about God), then on top of that her mom (also a Christian) is very proud and glad for it!*It's one thing to be glad that your daughter's still alive but shouldn't the mother also be watching what the daughters listening to?* Now the girl loves this group and is very obsessed with them and owns just about everything you can imagine from them---all their CD's, pictures, posters, etc.(you know what I mean!)!

This 'group' is her treasure and that's where her heart is (you can tell!). She is caught into a trap thinking she's safe. And realistically, how many of us fall into that same 'trap' thinking we're safe? That trap is going to eventually lead her down the road in the wrong direction, she can't see it now but, she's slowly going down that way. We need to help her get back on to the right track. Do you know how we do that? By setting before her a good example of a teen that isn't caught into that trap. Which means we have to watch and catch ourselves when we're doing, watching, or listening to something that isn't God honoring.

Here's a small assignment for everybody. Picture your favorite music group (or singer) and show. Okay now ask yourself these questions. . .
  1. What do they talk or sing about?
  2. What does it make you think about? Okay now, honestly?
  3. Is it positive things?
  4. Or negative things?
  5. Is it going to benefit you (and others who hear it) in the future?
  6. What do your parents think about it?
I know iTunes is a big thing right now, so ask yourself these questions before you buy things from there! And remember, everyone's watching you!! (No pressure!) ;)

Here's a verse to help on this topic.

"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, . . ."
Hebrew 12:1

My favorite singing group are the Maranatha Singers.

What do they talk or sing about?
They sing the Bible :-)

What does it make you think about?Okay now, honestly? Is it positive things?Or negative things?

It makes me think about God, and I love it because I get the Scripture stuck in my head :-) That's definitely a positive thing.

Is it going to benefit you (and others who hear it) in the future?

It benefits me now! The Holy Spirit has His Word within me to draw on and show what to do or say in any situation, sort of like He did when I had an opportunity to witness one time.

What do your parents think about it?

They actually enjoyed Maranatha before I did :-) They still like it now.

Thanks for encouraging us to really think these things through. Music is such a big industry, and Satan craftily hijacks it as much as possible for his uses. That means we had better be careful.
